Go Rockies!

On July 21, Stephen and I had a mother-son date to the Colorado Rockies game against the Chicago Cubs. My friend Linda and her daughter Alison joined us. It was a hot Sunday afternoon. We started our date with a ride on the light rail train. Stephen has seen them go by the house and wanted to ride on one. This was the first ride that he remembers. He was very excited and thought it went fast. He enjoyed watching everything out the window.
After getting off the light rail, we had a long walk to Coors Field. We finally made it. Stephen's eyes lit up when he saw the baseball field. He has been to games before, but this was his first this season when he really understands what's going on. Since our seats are in the front row, we brought his baseball glove. He kept talking about wanting to catch a ball.

Waiting for a ball to come his way

Stephen fell asleep in the 2nd or 3rd inning and slept for a few innings. While he was sleeping, a foul ball hit by Rockies player Nolan Arenado came our way, and they gave it to us. I stuck it in Stephen's glove. When he woke up, he wanted his glove. I handed it to him, and said, "Guess what, Stephen! A Rockie hit the ball to you!" Once again his eyes lit up!

For the rest of the game he kept talking about his ball and how a Rockie hit it to him. He enjoyed watching the game, and, despite the heat, we made through to the end. The Rockies won the game 4-3. We made the long trek back to the light rail and headed home. It was a very fun afternoon with my big boy!
